Only two airlines have planes small enough to land and take off from the tiny runway at the Salt Cay airport, but at press time the government had earmarked considerable funds to lengthen and resurface the airstrip and upgrade South Dock; work was to begin immediately and may be completed by the time this guide is in the stores -- once finished, airlines like SkyKing can deliver visitors to this delightful island. Currently, however, only Air Turks & Caicos and Global Airways charters fly to Salt Cay. Air Turks & Caicos offers regularly scheduled flights daily between Provo and Grand Turk, and then three flights a day from Grand Turk to Salt Cay; the Grand Turk-Salt Cay leg takes under 10 minutes and costs $50 round-trip. The one daily flight from Provo to Salt Cay takes 30 minutes and costs $165. |
