Salt Cay lodging - nice and great
Accommodations are less like the dictionary definition of "hotel" and more like the abstract—small, quiet guest houses and inns. Golf carts greet planes at the island's gravel airstrip to shuttle divers to their lodging. Some even offer home-cooked meals eaten family-style with other guests. Hope you're a social creature. Salt Cay has only a handful of inn-style lodgings, and in 2006 it lost a longtime favorite: The historic Mount Pleasant Guest House has been sold and is now a private residence. The island has a number of villas and cottages to rent. A short walk or bike ride away from the island's scuba diving headquarters, snorkeling and fishing, dining and dancing, and other water and land activities, TRADEWINDS Guest Suites is a comfortable lodging located on the beach just south of Deane's Dock on Salt Cay.Surrounded by a grove of casaurina trees, TRADEWINDS offers guests their choice of five bright and spacious one-bedroom suites to accommodate up to four people in comfort. Each suite includes a private bath, living room with hide-away sofa, air conditioned rooms, a full kitchen or kitchenette, a private large screened patio facing the Sea, and use of bicycles throughout your stay. The well kept grounds feature hammocks for enjoying the relaxing sounds of the Sea, a spacious deck for whale watching or sunbathing, and barbecues for preparing your catch of the day. Meal planning is flexible at TRADEWINDS, enjoy one of the island restaurants, bring your cooler full of food, send the staff a menu and we will stock your suite, or choose an all inclusive meal and dive package. Tradewinds Guest Suites was fortunate to have Mary Schultz visit Salt Cay in 2006 and take on the Tradewinds as a project! Mary is a working designer and painter. She was born into a rural Michigan farm family and now resides near Palm Springs, California enjoying the splendor of the mountains and desert. She came to Salt Cay 5 years ago and fell in love with the historical buildings and nature in Salt Cay. Mary has been back several times and plans to reside in Salt Cay within the next few years. The lifestyle and history of this special island motivated her to create wonderful images throughout the Tradewinds Guest Suites.
